Description:

Over the last decade performance requirements for automatic transmission fluids (ATF’s) have continued to become more stringent. These evolutionary changes can be tracked through service fill specification upgrades by the major transmission builders (OEM’s). These changes are shown in Table 1. The common theme in these specification upgrades is improved performance. Improved performance can be defined in many ways. The latest round of specification upgrades are aimed at the ultimate performance for a driveline fluid, Fill-for-Life. Allison C-5, Ford MERCONBV (1) and General Motors DEXRONB-IV approved fluids are all intended to be fill-for- life in normal vehicle service.
