Description:

Many of the discussions with refineries have dealt with the possibilities of retrofitting akylation or polymerization plants. This has led The M.W. Kellogg Company and Haldor Topsoe A/S to undertake several feasibility studies for specific clients. With this paper it is the intent to share the findings from some of these feasibility studies, as many of them are applicable to other refineries as well. The paper discusses case studies for retrofit of both HF and sulphuric acid alkylation plants and of a polymerization plant. To facilitate the description of the case studies, a description of the features of the fixed-bed process is given first.
