Description:

Further improvements to the already profitable and efficient operation of the Heavy Oil Cracker at Valero’s Corpus Christi Refinery were made possible by a recent revamp to incorporate direct-coupled cyclones in the reaction system. Commercial operating data clearly demonstrates the rate, yield, and operating benefits achieved through the use of the proprietary Lummus direct-coupled cyclones. In addition to the technology upgrade itself, proper planning in the early stages of the project led to a novel erection concept and efficient design layout that resulted in reduced revamp turnaround time and lower overall installation cost. This revamp has shown that attractive payouts can be achieved by taking a global approach early in the project regarding decisions on technology, design, and construction.
