AM-97-55 NEW, HIGH PERFORMANCE CATALYSTS FOR THE ISOMERIZATION OF n-C4 AND n-C5/C6

This paper demonstrates the successful application of AT-2 in a commercial nbutane isomerization unit, as predicted by pilot plant stability tests. The use of AT-2G in n-C5/C6. isomerization is illustrated by both pilot plant data and commercial experience. Benefit of the improved catalysts can be exploited by the refiner in various ways which will be discussed. The paper also describes the performance of AT-2 and AT-2G in laboratory and commercial environment. It is shown that the high activity and stability can be exploited by the refiner in many ways, such as, extension of cycle life, boosting the isomerization capacity, or processing more severe ‘feeds. Apart from this, AT-2(G)‘s higher activity will facilitate lower optimum reactor temperatures, which lead to more favorable thermodynamic equilibria and a lower contribution of hydrocracking reactions.
