AM-98- 12 NEW FCC CATALYST COOLER TECHNOLOGY

A new well-proven catalyst cooler technology is now available to refiners in the US and worldwide. This proprietary FCC catalyst cooler technology was developed and used for a number of years in China. Many new innovations and improvements have been made over a twenty year period by the developer, Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corporation (LPEC), a company organized within Sinopec. ABB Lummus Global has recently formed an alliance with LPEC to incorporate this technology into Lummus’ FCC technology. This paper discusses those new concepts and innovations and their advantages with regard to reliability and flexibility of operation: Commercial experience of this new catalyst cooler technology in more than 20 FCC units processing heavy feedstocks is also discussed.
