Description:

This paper extends the concept of FCC unit optimization to include hydrotreater operating conditions to maximize the overall profitability of the combined pretreater / FCC unit operation. Pilot plant studies for both hydrotreating and FCC were utilized along with a heat balanced FCC process model to determine optimum overall conditions for two economic scenarios. These included a maximum gasoline case typical of many Mid-Continent refineries and a maximum olefins & octane-barrels case typical of many Gulf Coast refineries with links to petrochemical complexes.
