Description:

The pace of change in US manufacturing as well as that of the lubricant supply chain has been dramatic and viewed with both success and disappointment. Since 1990 the growth in real manufacturing productivity has been as great as at time since the 1960’s. The pursuit of the performance improvement agenda has led to a number of improvement initiatives that are typically segmented into strategic, operations and systems areas. While the productivity progress is real, much of the gains have been in the form of the harvest of proverbial “low hanging fruit” which includes large scale asset consolidation and/or cost reduction (often personnel) across the supply chain. This paper provides an overview of best practices in third party logistics (3PL) management.
