The purpose of this paper is to outline several options for the supply of hydrogen, other industrial gases, and utilities such as steam and power to refiners. These options can be particularly valuable to an oil refinery whose hydrogen requirements are becoming large enough to justify the development of an independent, third-party supply infrastructure. Air Products has pioneered an innovative approach in which multiple products and services are produced, supplied and managed by the industrial gas company. By outsourcing all industrial gas and utility needs to a single supplier, a refiner can focus its capital and human resources on its core business and take advantage of an industrial gas producer’s expertise and experience.
