AM-98-65 GASOLINE SULFUR: A NEW CHALLENGE FOR U.S. REFINERS

Description:

The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (CAAA) established new Phase I (or Tier 1) emission standards for light-duty vehicles and trucks beginning in 1994. The CAAA also directs EPA to conduct a Phase II Study (or “Tier 2 Study”) to determine if vehicle emission standards --- more stringent than Tier 1 --- should be required.’ The Tier 2 Study applies to model year vehicles sometime between the years 2004 and 2006. EPA plans to submit the Tier 2 report to Congress in the summertime of 1998.
