Looking at profitability is complex. While the fundamentals of profitability are simple (revenue less costs), identifying means of changing the equation are complex. Even within the cost realm, there are a multitude of approaches, as the many views on supply chain management shared here today illustrate. What I’d like to do is to step back from specific implementation programs and talk about lubricants business profitability from a “big picture” perspective, and then talk about the role of manufacturing in lubricants profitability.
