Description:

The industry sectors of refining and electricity generation are rapidly changing with the effect that opportunities for integration and synergy are becoming increasingly apparent. This has resulted in new and economically attractive options for a mature technology like visbreaking. Instrumental for this revival has been Shell’s continuous development of this technology and the associated Visbreaking Vacuum Flashing technology which has significantly narrowed the gap between traditional visbreaking and delayed coking. Other opportunities are in the field of repowering or heat recovery from gas turbine exhaust gases. A new application of this concept in the Shell Thermal Gasoil Process is presented, by example of the latest STGP unit, presently under construction.
