Description:

The use of wet scrubbing systems to control the emission of particulate and SO2 is well proven and established. The systems in operation have proven to operate continuously and reliably while maintaining emission levels comfortably below the New Source Performance Standard (NSPS) of 1.0 lb/1000lbs coke burned for particulate and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) target level of 25 ppm for SO2. However, additional pollutant concerns have necessitated that the wet scrubbing process be extended for the control of other pollutants, such as NOx and sulfuric acid mist. Also, the liquid effluent discharge from wet scrubbing systems is an issue that must be evaluated in some locations. The control of each of these additional pollutants is closely examined with respect to the technology available to control these pollutants and how the technology blends with the wet scrubbing system.
