Historically a fouled, maintenance intensive system, the slurry circuit on Whiting’s FCU500 has undergone a transformation. Focused effort over the previous two TAR cycles has produced a much more reliable, operable and maintainable system. This presentation will focus on our successes and failures in reducing exchanger fouling, improving flow measurement, enhancing isolation ability, managing erosion potential and understanding the changing status of the system. Our efforts have and continue to be supported by a robust inspection program that has allowed us to find weaknesses before they escalate.
