During a FCC feed hydrotreater turnaround, Shell Martinez refinery initiated the use of a FCC SOx reduction additive. The implementation was a great success allowing the refinery to avoid the purchase of low sulfur VGO, maintain typical crude diet, and continue high refinery throughput. This presentation reviews the change process, the effects of the SOx reduction additive on FCC operation, and the benefits achieved by the Martinez Refinery.
