Description:

This presentation covers two topics important to monitoring the FCCU using a simulation model. The first topic is Unit Monitoring Tools (UMTs), which are applications based in Petro-SIM® Explorer that provide a systematic process of data collection, reconciliation and generation of performance indicators based on KBC’s rigorous kinetics-based FCC-SIM models. These low maintenance applications provide standardized performance indicators through a centralized database, through charts and tables accessible to any stakeholder, and can be used to validate vectors for Linear Programing models (LPs). Added value is created by systematizing, automating, simplifying and speeding up the process to validate plant data and model predictions while providing relevant performance indicators and making them a powerful tool to help with decision making. The second topic is a collection of best practices in the FCC-SIM model centered around model calibration. In the past three years, Albemarle has modeled over 70 different FCC units worldwide. With this experience we have amassed a range of practices that can be applied to FCC simulation modeling. These can be used to help refiners obtain more reliable information from their models.
