Refiners are continually challenged to improve profitability through feedstock flexibility, which often means processing heavier feeds with increased resid content. Typical challenges include increased slurry yield, higher regenerator bed temperature, and elevated dry gas make. At Philadelphia Energy Solutions Refining and Marketing, LLC (PES), a recent FCC catalyst change not only resulted in significantly improved yields, but also enabled additional resid processing in the FCC at the same time without any equipment modifications. Together with Grace, PES will describe how the partnership between PES and Grace, as well as the tailored catalyst solution, contributed to the overall improvement in refinery profitability.
