The supply chain concept was actively deployed in the mid 1980’s to define and implement performance improvement opportunities. The objective of this presentation is to present a balanced approach to identifying the most promising opportunities for driving supply chain value in the refining, chemicals and specialty distribution industries with business to business (B2B) systems solutions. In today's trade parlance the balance is a dialogue between insert: and “the clicks”. Clicks are the information systems professionals and their related service companies who add value via building, maintaining or operating web sites and tools. Bricks are the entrenched staff and companies who have significant experiences in the process industry are either new to, or circumspect to the Web based productivity initiatives. This paper outlines answers to three critical performance improvement questions: Where is the B3B Value Added, does it apply to the complexity in the chemicals industry, and what is the e chain framework to drive value.
