In this paper, basic principles of NIR spectroscopy will be first reviewed briefly. And then the actual implementation result of NIR in SK Corporation’s CDU NO.3 at Ulsan Complex will be introduced. On-line performance of NIR in crude unit and the use of real-time NIR data for the improvement of crude unit operation will be discussed in detail. Actual implementation result will be demonstrated during the discussion. Finally some other applications of NIR in SK Corporation Ulsan site will also be briefly introduced.
