Description:

Engen Refinery is a 105tbsd complex refinery in Durban South Africa that produces leaded as well as unleaded gasoline. Gasoline blending components are various streams sourced from Reformer, FCC, Alkylation, BTX Aromatics, Aliphatic Solvent, Polymerization, as well as an Isomerization unit. To ensure that an optimized plan is converted to an optimized schedule, Engen employs an integrated planning & scheduling system, where the Refinery- Wide LP is linked to a multi-period product blending and scheduling LP system. Recently, the move towards the cleaner fuels has started to gain momentum in Africa. In this respect, the system is also used to study the feasibility and economics of various lead phase-out strategies. This paper discusses the architecture, work practices, and economic benefits of an integrated planning and scheduling system.
