Description:

This paper describes the vertical and horizontal integration of control and information management implemented for the Operadora Cerro Negro Crude Production and Upgrader project in Venezuela. Building on the success of a previous project at Ras Laffan, Qatar, the concept of Integrated Control and Information Management Systems (ICIMS) has been applied to link operations and control of the production facility at Cerro Negro with the Upgrader facility at Jose and the 320km pipeline connecting the two facilities. Both sites are linked to each other via a WAN and integrated with a Buisness Information Management System (BIMS), based on a JD Edwards ERP system, installed at the Caracas Offices of OCN and ExxonMobil de Venezuela.
