Description:

This paper discusses the implementation of advanced control on a Sulfur Complex. The model predictive control applications, using AspenTech’s’ DMCplusTM multivariable control technology, showed a payout period of less than one year. The controllers minimized utility requirements and increased capacity while maintaining process parameters within safe operational limits. Inferentials were developed to provide the controllers with online continuous predictions of infrequently measured quantities. This paper presents both the obvious and non-obvious benefits of implementing inferential predictions and model predictive control on units in the Sulfur Complex.
