Description:

This paper describes the properties of a process information environment (PIE) which was built to support the life cycle of off-line process optimization. PIE provides an open, scalable, PC windows desktop which readily accommodates any processing unit and model. The system was created by unifying an MS Access database, a data tree, and a spreadsheet metaphor with Visual Basic. The system has been applied to several chemical and ethylene units. All applications have produced both tangible and intangible benefits and expedited the development of modeling projects. We will outline major design objectives of PIE and show selective examples of visual data reconciliation on an isomerization plant.
