Description:

Engelhard has developed and commercialized NaphthaMax® fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst based on a proprietary new matrix technology called DMS (for Distributed Matrix Structures). This unique catalyst pore architecture combines optimized porosity for heavy feed molecule diffusion with selective zeolite based cracking to achieve deep bottoms conversion with low coke formation. NaphthaMax was commercially introduced in 2000, and DMS based catalysts are currently operating in over 50 commercial FCC units worldwide. This market growth rate for DMS based catalyst users is remarkable for a new technology in what is generally perceived to be a conservative and mature industry. Breakthrough performance has been demonstrated compared with prior catalyst technologies, exhibiting high conversions and total liquid yields achieved while minimizing coke and gas formation.
