Description:

In this paper, we present an overview of batch biodegradation tests that we have developed to demonstrate the effectiveness of activated sludge as an emission control device. In addition, we present results of several compliance demonstrations for both compound specific and general VOC control. This batch testing approach is fairly rapid and can be used to assess cases where it is necessary to demonstrate the removal of a specific VOC or all VOC in general. Since many industrial facilities have existing activated sludge units, this treatment/compliance option may be a low cost capital approach to achieving compliance with the wastewater aspects of these CAAA regulations.
