Description:

This paper summarizes the recent findings of an on-going field demonstration project initiated in 1996 to evaluate the efficacy of using constructed wetlands for removal of BTEX from groundwater discharging to surface water at a former petroleum storage facility in New England. The field demonstration project included a pre-design investigation, design and construction of the subsurface flow constructed wetland system, growth and maturation of the wetland, and four years of operations and maintenance and performance monitoring of the system.
