Description:

This paper will discuss the benefits achieved at Shell through the implementation of a multiplant environmental information management system. Shell deployed the opsEnvironmental software system from ESP across all of its U.S. Refinery & Chemical facilities beginning in 2000, and the software is now being used in a total of 9 facilities. The software replaced a series of home-grown, individually developed spreadsheet-based tracking systems with a single, centralized, web-based system using a common database. The system was configured for the specific needs of the individual plants while introducing and ensuring a consistency in calculation methodologies and tracking approaches across multiple facilities. This paper will discuss the scope of Shell’s project, including initial drivers, regulatory and non-regulatory programs being managed, and benefits realized using the system.
