ENV-06-169 Increasing Water Scarcity Raising Refineries - Interests in Water Recycle and Reuse

This paper reviews various process schemes used to increase the availability of recycled and reused water to the refinery and the conditions that made such schemes successful in providing the appropriate quality of water needed. We propose that due consideration be given to the maximizing of recycle and reuse within an existing facility by establishing a Master Plan that will include future water needs that are anticipated as existing refineries are expanded and for new facilities consider designing facilities with the idea to maximize the amount of water recycled within the process.
