Description:

Waste treatment is generally viewed as an activity adding to the expenditure without any return on investment. However, with carefully chosen collection and treatment processes it is possible to turn the wastes into resources. This paper gives a brief overview of the waste management practices in a refineries and petrochemical industries. Various waste segregation processes have been discussed, followed by a discussion on the commonly used treatment processes. A discussion on advanced oxidation processes for meeting discharge requirements on specific regulated and biologically recalcitrant compounds has been included. Finally, various means of resource recovery have been described.
