Description:

The California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB-32) (CHSC §§ 38500), signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2006, provides for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG)emissions in California by approximately 25 percent compared to business as usual projections. The goal is to reach 1990 GHG emission levels by 2020. The agency taking the lead in implementing AB-32 is the California Air Resources Board (ARB). With input from stakeholders in industry, communities, and other parties, ARB is considering a variety of measures to reduce GHG emissions. A significant amount of progress has been made to date, including the definition of early action measures that can be implemented in the near term, development of a mandatory GHG reporting program, and the release of a draft Scoping Plan that outlines how California expects to meet the goals of AB-32.
