Description:

The US EPA is currently focusing attention on emissions of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAP’s) from several types of refinery units that have not been subject to prior HAP emission regulations. This paper will discuss the formation and control of two HAP’s known to be present in Sulfur Recovery Units (SRU’s), the reduced sulfur compounds carbonyl sulfide (COS) and carbon disulfide (CS2). Available methods of predicting emissions of these compounds are reviewed and an example of the effectiveness of different control strategies is presented.
