Description:

EARTHTECH AND ONYX Industrial Services, Inc. have begun the fourth year of a ten year mechanical integrity program on the oily water process sewer system within a major oil refinery located in the Midwest. We performed a risk-based, business approach to the oily water sewer assessment. This entailed identification and prioritization of risk sources and balanced their risk with needs. We completed the following objectives: ¨ Maximized unit risk reduction per unit cost, ¨ Optimized cash flow, and ¨ Reduced overall cost. The scope of work was broken down into the following five task: Initial Review, Field Survey, Project Planning, Cleaning for Inspection, and Construction Management. The Initial Review task involved the reviewing of available drawings, specifications and other information on the oily water process sewer system to gain knowledge of the system in order to expedite the Field Survey. The Field Survey task involved the completion of aboveground field survey or audit of the oily water process sewer system to develop an understanding of the sewer system. The Project Planning task involved the completion of three subtask, Preparation/Staging, Project Implementation Plan, and Project Management/Documentation, respectively. The Cleaning for Inspection and Construction Management task involved the cleaning of the oily water process sewer system with a hydro-jet and vacuum cleaning unit to remove debris and scale from the interior of the sewer pipes to enable the visual evaluation of the sewer pipe physical condition for rehabilitation.
