Biodiesel fuels are being promoted as environmentally friendly alternatioves to conventional petroleum-based fuels. However, the impact of these fuels on the potential degradation of crankcase lubricants is not well documented, but it is a concern of most diesel engine manufacturers. This presentation looks at the impact of biodiesel contamination of the crankcase lubricant in a series of bench and engine tests as well as a 20 unit field test.
