The North American lubricants industry remains in a state of change. Passenger car engine oils continue to get thinner to contribute towards new fuel economy standards. This has impacted both additive technology and base stock selection and influenced the way in which the base stock industry now operates. Formulators now have many tools to achieve the required viscometrics of low SAE grade engine oils. This presentation will focus on the changes that have occurred and the options that are now available to meet the challenge of formulating thinner engine oils.
