Description:

Automobile manufacturers needs for improved fuel economy and lower emissions require that future crankcase motor oils have both lower viscosity and lower volatility. Exxon has developed a proprietary technology called Raffinate Hydroconversion that has exceptional flexibility to make higher quality basestocks with superior viscosityvolatility characteristics and high saturates. This technology has been developed to fit into an existing solvent technology lube plant at low cost. A project to make these oils has been installed at Exxon’s Baytown Texas refinery.
