ASTM has been actively working on defining the tests and limits for the next quality level of engine oils intended for passenger cars and light trucks, identified as GF-3 by the International Lubricants and Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC). The specification is expected to feature five new engine tests, at least one and possibly two new bench tests, and new limits on four bench tests currently used to define ILSAC GF-2.
