Description:

The United States Navy is meeting the challenge to maintain Fleet readiness during a period of declining manning, funding and resources despite facing a requirement for increased strength to support our national security interests and overseas commitments. Today’s at sea operational requirements remain at the same pace as at the height of Desert Storm. Some of the credit for “doing more with less” can be attributed to an improved maintenance strategy focused on Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM). This paper will briefly describe RCM, how it is being implemented in a systematic approach and provide an example which is analogous to the environment under which the petroleum refineries operate.
