Welding is one of the most pervasive tasks across several industries, but in the maintenance and construction industries it poses its most significant health and safety risks. One of its challenges in control strategy is its complexity with the various types of welding, consumables, substrate metals and emission of multiple toxics. One of the toxic emissions of recent notoriety is hexavalent chromium for which OSHA issued a Final Rule on February 28, 2006, with the effective date, May 30, 2006, start-up date for all provisions, except engineering controls, November 27, 2006 and full implementation, including engineering controls, May 30, 2008.
