Basic alarm analysis software almost always contains the ability to collect other types of control systems and change data. Basic alarm analyses can identify many control loop problems. Beyond those basics, the infrastructure of alarm management can be leveraged to support continuous online monitoring, analysis, and reporting of loop performance. Thinking beyond alarm management has also resulted in using that infrastructure for such things as continuous process boundary analysis and continuous monitoring of the functioning and bypass status of all safety instrumented protection layers.
