Description:

The operation and optimization of chemical processes span multiple time-horizons. It is managed via a decision-making structure that, historically was assumed to be hierarchical. This structure is typically divided into two major functions: process operations and process control. This presentation addresses this problem by challenging the accepted decision-making structure in the chemical supply chain. It departs from the current, linearly-hierarchical setup and proposes a new decision-making framework that is more connected focusing on a novel technique for integrating the nonadjacent layers, production planning and process control.
