Process control engineers are striving to maintain their abundant control assets in refineries in order to maintain their performance and customer acceptance. Control loops, strategies and advanced applications are becoming a huge maintenance burden on site engineers due to higher demands on quality and plant reliability. With the advent of control performance monitoring solutions, the diagnosis task for pointing out the hardware, software and operator failures has been greatly simplified, but the challenges associated with maintaining control performance are still heavily present if these technologies are not properly deployed and integrated. In this paper, we will discuss our experience in effective deployment of control performance monitoring solutions, and the important business integration concepts that are needed in order to get maximum advantage of the available control performance technologies.
