Description:

An advanced initiative to develop a system for operations, maintenance and engineering groups to rationalize and validate maintenance strategies for a Bitumen Upgrader brought together top engineering and operations talent, plus it made use of new semantic data management technologies to accommodate the required flexibility. The resulting application supported equipment base plates, care plans, problem identifications, criticality indices, causes and spare parts. All of the data for this functionality were maintained in an Ontology database. This paper will discuss the real world problem being addressed, the approach taken, the technologies that were applied, the realities of execution and the promise for the future as applied to use of semantic data management for process applications in Oil and Gas, Refining and Petrochemicals.
