NOVA Chemicals has recently upgraded its operations scheduling system to better enable its decisions concerning how to best process crude and other feedstocks though its distillation units and fourteen cracking furnaces. NOVA’s scheduling system now employs Haverly Systems’ latest scheduling tools, which instantly shows through vivid graphics the outcomes resulting from modifications to operating parameters and hydrocarbon re-distributions; thereby enabling the scheduler to interactively make the best decisions regarding the plant’s performance. In this paper, the application of these tools at NOVA will be discussed and realistic examples of their use shown.
