Description:

This paper highlights some general characteristics of world-class organizations and then proceeds to develop a position statement as to what is necessary to be world class in the area of asset reliability. The underlying theme threading its way throughout the paper is that managers of organizations must: (a) have an enlightened top management team that understands the importance of considering asset reliability as a strategic initiative (b) properly screen and hire the best people available; (c) understand the knowledge and skills that will make these people most effective; and (d) provide the proper environment for creating change. These are the necessary ingredients for increasing world-class asset reliability, or for being world class when measured against any desired capability.
