Description:

It is important not to attempt to do everything at once when developing your Preventive Maintenance Program in SAP or in any CMMS. Take your Preventive Maintenance Program in steps. Determine your most critical equipment and functional locations first. When selecting your critical equipment or functional locations, you should determine the key components. Key components are parts that have a greater influence on the ability of the equipment to properly function than any other components. I recommend that you create a list of your key components in categories based on input needs from Maintenance, Operations and from the Manufacturer. Maintenance and Operations should study the list to identify problem equipment or functional locations. Together, they should decide if and when changes are necessary. A final recommendation is to have maintenance and operations monitor all cost and work towards prolonging the life of the equipment or functional locations.
