Labor statistics, work force preferences, aging population, and surveys of plant experience all point to a clearly declining trend in the long-term quantity and quality of craft labor. This trend comes as pressure increases to maintain and improve plant reliability regardless of the aging plant infrastructure. This workshop is designed to present the role of advanced technologies for the inspection and repair of critical plant components as a critical management strategy for improving results despite a declining craft talent pool. Case histories from various projects and adaptations of technology will be presented that will demonstrate how automation can reduce the quantity of labor and minimize the dependence on craft skill levels for different scopes of work.
