Many issues confront the development, implementation and maintenance of a strong materials program. Understanding these issues and applying sound engineering judgment to their resolutions is important in preventing material failure related events. There are several events in recent history that underscore the importance of a properly conceived and implemented materials verification program. Many facilities may have incorporated a materials verification program into their standards however, proper implementation of these programs must be revisited and revised periodically to ensure that changes in industry practices are properly managed.
