Description:

During this presentation, we will review the results of the Craft Training Best Practices Research Program spanning from the initial survey in early 2010 through subsequent data collected from best practice sites through early 2011. Attrition through retirement of large numbers of maintenance employees has resulted in the need to hire and train their replacements as well as to capture and transfer their knowledge and experience - all while ensuring safe, reliable, and profitable operations and sustaining the maintenance workforce. The Craft Training Best Practice Research Program was designed to obtain information about the current state of craft training in the petrochemical and refining industry, provide valuable data about the scope and specifics of issues involved, and offer targeted solutions and processes to inform dialogue and decision-making. We will share our stories and lessons-learned from the survey research, follow-up interviews with best practice NPRA member organizations, and the craft training programs we have spearheaded as refining managers and consultants.
