RMC-15-71 On-stream Inspection at 650º F Using High Temperature Phased Array

Most are aware of phased array technology but most are also assume that array is only viable at ambient or low temperatures. This paper will show how we have successfully performed a 100% reactor inspection on Circumferential, Longseam and Nozzle welds and other vessels, piping or components as “in-service” inspections at temperatures up to 700⁰F. This is a powerful tool for owner/users and operators of reactors and vessels whereas now they have the ability to assess mechanical integrity and/or monitor cracking without taking the equipment out of service not only saving millions of dollars in potential lost production but also with much better ultrasonic data. This allows for more effective monitoring of cracking and other damage mechanisms until such time that the repairs become necessary.
