Description:
For Shell, Sustainable Development is a hard, cold business reality. Royal Dutch/Shell Group Chairman Phil Watts is very succinct. He says it is imperative that the company employ the principles of sustainable development in all operations – taking account of their social and environmental consequences as well as the economic dimension. “We believe,” Watts says, “that long-term competitive success depends on being trusted to meet society’s expectations.” In other words, being a world leader in energy and petrochemicals depends heavily on the company’s ability to contribute to society and operate in a sustainable manner. Companies that are not so inclined are going to fall to the back of the pack or worse, disappear altogether.
