Streamlining Management of Change to Gain Competitive Advantage

The refining industry is facing more competitive pressure than ever. Financial returns in the industry have been minimal and there is a constant stream of new challenges for management to face. In short, we must be better, faster and cheaper than ever before. This paper argues that one way to achieve these goals is to recognize Management of Change as a business process that can be used to gain competitive advantage, rather than just as a regulatory burden, and to then streamline that business process with the help of a well designed and implemented “third-generation” information system tool. The conclusions in this paper are based on the authors’ experience with the development and implementation of such Management of Change systems for many facilities of major companies in the energy, refining, chemical and pharmaceutical industries over the past five years.
